PRIVY PURSE OFFICE
BUCKINGHAM PALACE, S.W.
3rd May, 1916.
Dear Sir George Alexander,
The King and Queen desire me to tell you how admirable they thought yesterday's performance at Drury Lane was. Their Majesties much admired the truly magnificent representation of "Julius Caesar" and feel no more fitting tribute could have been paid to Shakespeare's memory.
The King and Queen were glad to have been
present at this historical production of Shakespeare
in which all the most eminent actors and actresses
took part, and I am to ask you to convey to them and
to the musicians and painters who gave their services,
Their Majesties' congratulations on the brilliant
success of the performance.
Yours faithfully,
[signed ?]
Sir George Alexander.
