Transatlantic Shakespeare

The Lyceum Theatre's transatlantic tours from 1883 to 1902 were highly successful. They helped to develop interest in the plays of William Shakespeare and, more generally, the cultural value of theatre performance. Venturing by railway across the USA, the Lyceum Theatre tours took theatrical productions to newly developing towns as well as to the flourishing cultural centres in established cities.
